When I was younger my Aunt taught me how to knit a wash cloth out of cotton yarn. I think I made some for my mom. As I grew older I had a friend who loved to crochet, so she taught me, and together we crocheted, not too sure I made anything, I just enjoyed my friends company and the feel of the yarn and the hook. I personally love crocheting over knitting.
Then a few Thanksgivings back one of my extended family was wearing a granny square poncho and I thought hey I could do that! So when I got back to London, I went out and got some yarn, not knowing much about yarn I just bought the cheapest and the colours I likes! You really do get what you pay for, my poncho turned out stitch and scratchy. I eventually figured out what acrylic yarn to use that was super soft and had awesome colours. I made hand warmers for myself, and a few people from work wanted some, and it snow balled from there. Soon I was making hats and neck warmers, infinity scarves and anything anyone wanted, I would make for them. I got the idea to spin my own yarn when I watched a video about spinning dog hair, and I thought Hey that’s a good idea. I found a wheel, took lessons, and loved it. I have yet to spin dog hair. But you never know what the future holds. Now I make items with both acrylic and hand spun yarn. |
